Many of our girls headed over to Wickers gymnastics club in Lancing for their annual competition.
We offer a wide range of classes to suit all abilities. The gymnastics pathway begins at the recreational level. Like most activities, we begin by grouping the gymnasts by age, but as they progress they will move into ability level. Gymnasts that show hard work and commitment are invited into one of the many progressive pathways available. One of our coaching team will advise when your child is ready to move class.
Once a gymnast is ready for the next step, there is plenty of opportunity to extend their skill base. One being our advanced recreational group. These gymnasts train for two hours a week, which enables them to enjoy and progress within their sport without having the added pressure of training and competing in compulsory competitions.
Both our recreational gymnasts and advanced recreational gymnasts follow the British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards system allowing them to work towards badges and certificates of their achievements.
The club provides the opportunity for our recreational children to demonstrate their ability through our annual Wendy Lewis Club Championships which is held in March. This is a fun and friendly take on the competitive structure, where recreational and squad gymnasts perform side-by-side.
When Gymnasts show the potential to develop their gymnastics and to compete, they will be offered the opportunity to join one of squad groups by a member of the coaching team. Female gymnasts begin in our Junior Development squad from the age of 4 or Development squad from the age of 7.
For both Boys and Girls, we offer the opportunity to be part of the Floor and Vault Squad, this enables those gymnasts a pathway who are unable to train across the 4/6 pieces of apparatus required by the other squads, however gives them addition time to train across two peices.
When Gymnasts show the commitment required and the determination to progress and compete at a higher level, they will be invited into our Pre-Junior squad. From this the usual route is into our Junior squad, and then the Senior Squad.
Those gymnasts who show the ability and aptitude may be invited into the clubs Women’s Artistic Squad. The squad trains separately from the rest of the clubs squad, following a different gymnastics pathway set by the British Gymnastics.
