Meet the Coaches

Becker

Becker started gymnastics in 1977 and trained for many years locally and as part of the County squad. She started coaching in 1990 and started Southbourne Gym Club in 2003. She won the Observer's Community and Sports Awards Coach of the Year 2008 and the District's Youth Sports Achievement Awards Coach of the Year 2009.


Laura

Laura was an artistic gymnast for many years, before heading into coaching gymnastics. She is also a qualified sports therapist and brings many years of experience as a gymnast and coach to our team. Laura coaches the Womens’ Artistic Squad, as well as being the clubs head coach. In 2015, Laura passed the Women's Artistic Club Judging exams. Furthering her knowledge, Laura has attended many additional course and conferences.


Jess

Jess, after hanging up her own leotard moved onto coaching our recreational and squad gymnasts. Jess sat her first women's artistic coaching exams in 2015, 2nd in 2018, and now further her knowledge on the level 3 modules. Jess is a key part to the development of our women's artistic squad.


Ali

Ali took an interest in gymnastics when her daughters started with the club and has since taken her coaching exams. Ali's passion lies in coaching recreational gymnasts in classes at the Club. As well as being a qualified Level 2 coach Ali is a Floor and Vault judge.


Nets

Nets works with primary school children during the day and having qualified as a coach in 2015 she works with the recreational and squad gymnasts to develop their skills. Nets is currently taking her next level of Artistic exams.


Chloe

Chloe having recently hung up her leotard from training in our Womens' artistic squad now coaches our recreational and squad gymnasts. Chloe can pass her skill knowledge on to the next generation of gymnasts. In 2018 Chloe completed her level 1 coaching course and is currently sitting her level 2 Artistic course.


Maisie

Maisie took a keen interest in coaching gymnastics for her Duke of Edinburgh award where we could help facilitate this. Maisie shows great enthusiasm in coaching our recreational and younger squad gymnasts. She Completed her Level 1 course in 2019 and is now sitting her Level 2 course.


Neil

Having coached a number of sports over many years Neil passed his coaching first gymnastics qualifications in 2012, and second in 2015. Neil has started the next level of exams to work with more experienced gymnasts. He currently works with the clubs development squad, preparing them for many of the competitions they participate in.


Lottie

Lottie was a big part of the original squad. Having finished gymnastics herself and having a few years out, Lottie has returned to pass on her passion and knowledge to all our gymnasts.


Danny

Danny, after hanging up his handguards moved onto coaching our recreational and squad gymnasts. Danny is preparing to start his first Artistic coaching award. Danny is also a very talented Footballer!


Rachael

Rachael's daughter had been training in our squad for a number of years and is therefore in the gym at the majority of our sessions. She has attended the British Gymnastics Child Protection and Welfare courses and is involved at the meetings and in the decision making process of the club. In 2010 Rachael was the recipient of Sussex County's Volunteer of the Year award and in 2011 she received an award for Regional Volunteer of the year.


Trainee coaches

We are lucky enough to have a handful of trainee and volunteer coaches, who love to pass on their own gymnastics knowledge to the future generations. They actively take part in our in-house training and will soon be starting their coaching careers!


Jade, Liv and Rich

Jade has been apart of the club since the first day the doors opened! Jade has recently moved on to training assistance dogs, however pops into the gym regularly and helps out when needed, whether for a session or at a competition.

Liv was part of the senior squad until 2017, when she moved onto coaching. Liv has recently moved but pops into the gym and helps out occasionally.

Rich coached our senior squad until he 'retired' in 2018. You'll now see Rich around the gym doing any maintenance work!
