Invitational Beam and Vault Competition, 23rd November 2008
Southbourne Gymnastics Club hosted their Annual Invitational Beam and Vault competition last weekend and the gymnasts from the Club won 8 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medals winning medals in every age group in every category they competed in.
In the advanced competition in YOB 95-97 Paige Hanson won gold on beam and finished first overall. Natasha Morgan won on vault, came second on beam and won silver overall and Becky Durham won bronze on vault and finished just outside the medals overall in forth place. In the YOB 98-00 Jade Bailey won silver on both beam and vault and therefore finishing in second place overall. Alisha Redfern won bronze on beam and bronze overall and Maddie Smith won gold on vault and finished 4th overall missing out on the bronze medal position by 0.05. Kira Walker and Jessica Hill both had a good competition including new skills on both beam and vault that they had not competed before and finished 5th and 6th overall. In the over 13's age group Bea Hotchkiss won silver on beam and finished 2nd overall a great achievement as she was competing against some gymnasts almost ten years older than her.
In the Intermediate competition Dani Thorn won on beam and came second on vault securing the first place overall on the 2000 - 2002 age group. Lindsey Hart won on vault and Chloe Wileman came second in the same age group where Laura Hayes finished 5th and Caitlyn Odin 8th. In the YOB 97-99 Meghan Scott came 3rd on Beam and narrowly missed out on an overall medal place finishing 4th. Isobel Hanson finished 8th, Bella Inglis 10th and Jessica Valentine 12th.
In the Junior YOB 01-03 category Southbourne Gym Club had young gymnasts competing in their first competition. Megan Ward finished 3rd on Vault and 8th overall. Pippa Madden came 10th, Rebecca Mann, the youngest competitor in the competition finished 12th, Johanna Wilson 15th and Alexandra Shergold 16th.
All the gymnasts from the club have been working extremely hard and it was good to see them all competing new skills which they have been working towards. Some of the club's squad gymnasts now look forward to a regional competition in December and all the club's gymnasts are invited to the Christmas disco and awards evening before the take a well earned rest over the Christmas period.
